Olam Agri Trains Underprivileged Children in Baking Through the “Big Baker” Project
Accra, Ghana - Olam Agri’s Grains Business, operators of a state-of-the-art wheat mill in Tema and a leading manufacturer of wheat flour in Ghana, has, in collaboration with Ennoble Africa Foundation, empowered underprivileged children in Accra by imparting baking skills through the “Big Baker" project.
The Grains Business’ project aims to equip young individuals with essential baking skills and mentorship, fostering their entrepreneurial potential and providing them with practical skills for future success, while its partner, Ennoble Africa Foundation is a non-governmental organisation accomplished in the provision of vocational skills for orphans. More than 250 children have been successfully trained under the “Big Baker” project since its launch in September this year.
Soumya Saxena, Business Head for Olam Agri’s Grains Business, strongly emphasises the importance of education and skills development as tools for breaking the cycle of poverty.
Olam Agri is convinced that education and skills development are critical for breaking the cycle of poverty. By providing opportunities for these children to learn valuable skills, we hope to inspire them to pursue their dreams and contribute positively to their communities.
Soumya Saxena,

Dulcie Delali Attipoe, Team Lead for Ennoble Africa Foundation, echoed this sentiment, noting that the initiative provides a solid foundation for the children's future by teaching them life skills that foster self-sufficiency.

This year alone, the company launched a nationwide health screening program for over 6,000 bakers under the "My Healthy Baker" initiative, promoting healthy practices and improving food safety standards in the baking industry. Additionally, Olam Agri has implemented programs such as the Grains Hygiene Standard Management (GHSM) and "Grains of Friendship" to further enhance food safety and foster industry collaboration.
