In the Republic of Congo, our commitment goes beyond responsible forest management to supporting the communities who live around our operations. This October, that meant giving children a better place to learn and helping others start the school year with confidence.

On 9 October 2026, we officially handed over a newly constructed school in Moungoumba, 22 km from Enyellé. For years, children from the villages of Moungoumba 1 and Moungoumba 2 faced challenges due to inadequate school infrastructure. When the community identified a new school as a priority, we supported its construction, funding the project entirely from our own resources. The school will now provide a better learning environment for approximately 200 children from Indigenous and Bantu communities.

Built near the villages of Moungoumba and Enyellé, the school has significantly reduced the distance children had to travel to access education. It welcomes pupils aged between 6 and 14 and comprises two classrooms, each equipped with desks and chairs, as well as a teacher’s house with a shower and toilet. Additional hygiene facilities and toilets are scheduled for completion in January 2027. Denis Dechenaud, our Director of Forestry, handed the school over to Mr Adolphe Bouateke Makongo, Sub-Prefect of Enyellé, representing the Congolese State, in the presence of village chiefs and community representatives.

Further south, in Pokola, our wood business handed over 51 school kits to pupils of Pokola 3 Primary School on 12 October, as part of our 2026 “Rentrée Éco-Solidaire” campaign. Each kit contained the essential supplies for the new term. Six kits recognised top-performing pupils across three selected schools, and the remainder went to children whose families could not afford supplies, so that no child begins the year at a disadvantage. The ceremony was presided over by Mr Moukolo Didier, Inspector for the Pokola school district.

Together, the two initiatives reflect a shared belief that supporting education is an investment in the future of the communities around our operations. Whether it is a new classroom for a village or a notebook on the first morning of term, our aim is the same: to give every child a stronger start.
